The collaboration between Iulia Gorneanu, doctor in ethnology, author and muse, and Alice, artist and designer, passionate about the Eastern Romanian heritage, brings the WEEKDAYS project to the world. Or, in short, one T-shirt for each day of the week. And not anyway, but each one with its own story and gender, because in our country, every day represented a demi-deity, to whom you showed respect through work, rest or other specific rituals. So you are not wearing a T-shirt, but an immortal story, thus becoming part of it.

The collection is inspired by Kurt Hielscher’s snapshots taken at the beginning of the 30s, during the trip or several years, difficult, but, as he testified in the preface of the book “Romania”, extremely rewarded by the ancestral beauty discovered. Starting from here, Alice created a series of collages, with the challenge of not ruining the unparalleled beauty of the photographs. Rather, he sought to give meaning to the stories of the days of the week, amplifying the force of each image with modern and minimalist interventions.

In the popular calendar, far from being mere abstract notions of time measurement, the days of the week are rather organic, alive, born of stories and story-makers. The peasants believe that they also have their soul (“the days are like creatures”. Ernest Bernea), that once upon a time they walked the earth, dividing themselves into good days and bad days, abundant days and barren days, female days and male days .

TUESDAY is the day the world was created. It’s said that Christ was born on Tuesday. People say that it’s good to start working on the field on a non-fasting day, Tuesday and Thursday in particular, for more abundance. Do not start plowing on Tuesday, this will only interfere with the cooking, and all dishes would be bland. Always place the hen for laying Tuesday evening, for it’ll lay many more eggs.

Beyond the mythical personification of the days that make it up, the week is a repetition of the mystery of creation (“God made the world in six days and in the seventh he rested”) that people should imitate.

Colaborarea dintre Iulia Gorneanu, doctor în etnologie, autoare și muză, și Alice, artist și designer, pasionată de moștenirea estetică românească, aduce pe lume proiectul ZILELE SĂPTĂMÂNII. Sau, pe scurt, câte un tricou pentru fiecare zi a săptămânii. Și nu oricum, ci fiecare cu povestea și genul lui, pentru că la noi, la țară, fiecare zi reprezenta o semi-zeitate, căreia îi arătai respectul prin muncă, odihnă sau alte ritualuri specifice. Așa că tu nu porți un tricou, ci o poveste nemuritoare, astfel făcând  parte din ea.

Colecția este inspirată din instantaneele lui Kurt Hielscher realizate la începutul anilor 30, în timpul peripluului sau de câțiva ani, anevoios, dar, așa cum mărturisea el în prefață cărții “Rumania”, extrem de răsplătit prin frumusețea ancestrală descoperită. Pornind de aici, Alice a creat o serie de colaje, cu provocarea de a nu știrbi frumusețea inegalabilă a fotografiilor. Ba mai degrabă, a căutat să dea sens poveștilor zilelor săptămânii, amplificând forță fiecărei imagini cu intervenții moderne și minimaliste.

În calendarul popular, departe de a fi doar simple noțiuni abstracte de măsurare a timpului, zilele săptămânii sunt mai degrabă organice, vii, născute din povești și făuritoare de povești. Țăranii cred că au și ele sufletul lor („zilele sunt așa ca niște făpturi”. Ernest Bernea), că înainte vreme umblau pe pământ, împărțindu-se în zile bune și zile rele, zile îmbelșugate și zile sterpe, zile femeie și zile bărbat.

MARȚI e ziua în care s-a urzit lumea. Marţi s-a născut Domnul Hristos. Ȋn popor se spune că e bine ca ogorul să-l începi într-o zi de dulce, marţea şi joia îndeosebi, ca să fie mai mult belşug. Să nu începi la plug marţea, că nu se fac bucatele. Să pui cloşca totdeauna marţi sara, pentru ouă multe.

Dincolo de personificarea mitică a zilelor ce o alcătuiesc, săptămâna este o repetare a misterului creației („Dumenezeu a făcut lumea în șase zile iar într-a șaptea s-a hodinit”) pe care oamenii ar trebui să o imite.
