THE DAYS OF THE WEEK
MYTHOLOGICAL T-SHIRTS
The collaboration between Iulia Gorneanu, with a phD in ethnology, author, and muse, and Alice, artist, and designer, both passionate about the Romanian aesthetic heritage, brings the WEEKDAYS project to the world. Or, in short, a t-shirt for each day of the week. And not just that, because each one has its own story and gender. According to Romanian folklore, every day is anthropomorphized into a demi-deity, to whom you showed respect through work, rest, or other specific rituals. So you don’t just wear a t-shirt, you also wear an immortal story, you give tribute to the wisdom of the old, thus shaping the future through knowing and sharing our collective past.
The collection is inspired by Kurt Hielscher’s snapshots taken in the early 1930s, during his journey of several years through Romania, an arduous one, yet, as he testified in the preface to his book “Romania”, rewarding beyond measure by the ancestral beauty he discovered. Starting from here, Alice created a series of collages, with the challenge of not ruining the unparalleled beauty of the photographs. Rather, she sought to give meaning to the stories of the days of the week, amplifying the force of each original image with modern and minimalistic interventions.
